We have worked our little tails off this past week. Melissa was home from college and she really worked hard. There were many days that we got to the cabin at 9 am and did not leave until 3 or 4 pm. Then other days we got there about 4 and did not leave until dark. All three of the girls did a good job helping this past week.
We planted every seed and plant that we had left over the past week. There are tomatoes, peppers, beans, peas, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, watermelons and cantaloupe. Some of them are already sprouting up. We put up wire and post with twine for the plants that need support. My friends laughed with they saw what we used. I have said before that we are using what we have------so there were bundles of stair spindles and we used them. It does look at bit funny but it works.

We also planted two pear trees. Our first thought was to only plant one and see how it did. At the check out counter the tree rang up half price so we got two for the price of one. We also planted the goji bush and the new fig plant. Oh, and some flowers around the garden that are suppose to help keep the deer and rabbits out. I hope it works! We have seen two rabbits and several deer this week. I know the deer were in the fruit garden because they left their tracks.

I love having great friends! On Saturday a couple from our church brought their bush hog over and cut the grass. Did I tell you it was any where from 3 to 4 foot high? Yep, it really was. We had been able to cut the grass around the cabin pretty well. We just could not keep up with all of the grass since the rain helped it grow so fast. Wait---why is it that the grass will grow at crazy speeds but the garden seems to grow so slow?

Connie worked in the flower bed that I did not even know existed. I had just been mowing every thing down. It all looked like weeds to me. So, come to find out we have several types of foliage and flowers growing. The sad part is a little snake was killed by the weed eater. Sorry little snake. You may see its bones later. Yes, the girls wanted to keep it!

A HUGE THANK YOU to Steve and Connie. You are the best!!
The asparagus is just growing like crazy. Thank goodness the carrots do not seem to mind. They are growing right in there with it. We have two onions and three potato plants that are up. The peas are doing pretty well along with a few spinach plants. We have about 60 tomato plants and eight pepper plants. I am not sure that all the tomato plants are going to make it. We started them from seeds and they are small. The heavy rain just pounded some of them to the ground. I am excited about the peppers----especially the purple ones. Yep, purple peppers. I had never seen them before and I can not wait to try them.

Karmin and her flower bed are doing great. Just take a look ----
The plants are not the only things growing. The chicks are four weeks old and are huge. They have REAL chicken feet now and can do this little flying thing. They are so funny to watch. They enjoy their field trips to the cabin until it starts getting dark. At that point they start to chirp and chirp until you put them in their cardboard taxi.

Are you ready for a field trip? |
