The rooster and hen that were left when we bought the cabin are gone. Janie said it was a sight to see. The people came in a mustang to pick them up. Where was the cage??? Well, in the trunk of course.
I am glad they have a new home. I put an ad on freecycle this morning. By three this afternoon five people wanted them. The plans is to expand the chicken coop that we already have. Karmin and I hope to work on that this weekend. Then we will get a few pullets. Yes, I do know what a pullet is :) I would really like to purchase the ones that lay colored eggs - that would be neat.
We are a small family farm that started with one cabin and two chicks. We still have one cabin but the chicks have multiplied. I am sure we have over 100 by now. We show and breed most of our bantams. We sell our eggs at the local farmers market and right off the farm.

Crazy Plants
As I posted earlier Karmin and I had planted some cabbage and flower seeds. We had a few sprouts on Friday. Today we have 71 cabbage sprouts, 70 flower sprouts and 67 tomato sprouts. They are just going crazy. It will be interesting to see how many will actually grow in the garden. I have been praying that what ever we plant that God bless it so we have enough to share. He sure is blessing the sprouts. I also have a dewberry bush. that we will be planting soon.

Plants
Janie called very excited yesterday to let me know the onions have sprouted in the garden. Good news! We needed some good news this week. As you know Brian is at Ft. Stewart for a few weeks. The day he left the refrigerator went out. Then we were told Janie's scooter can not be fixed. A very sad day on Thursday because our dog Dixie passed away. She was with us for twelve years. We will miss her.
Wednesday Karmin and I planted cabbage, marigold and zinnia seeds in the jiffy trays. Friday we had a couple of sprouts already. Well, today we have a bunch of sprouts. The tomatoes are just going crazy. In each tray there are 72 of the soil disk to plant the seeds and all but eight have sprouted.
At the cabin we have planted one dwarf red maple tree and one red dogwood tree. So far they are doing pretty good. Next we will plant a dewberry plant, a muscadine plant and a blueberry bush. They arrived this week and I planned on planting them this weekend. That will have to wait since we have rain.
I hope that God blesses our garden so we have enough to share.

I HAVE TO DO WHAT?
I am sure Janie thought I was joking about the yard. Or, at least she thought I would do all the real work. Boy howdy did she get a surprise. You see, Janie needed a ride home today from work. Her scooter is in the shop. So I told her I would take her home and we would start cutting the grass at the cabin. Heck, there's no reason to make a trip out there if you can not make something happen. Around 5:30 pm Karmin and I picked her up with the weed eater and the push mower in tow.
When we got to the cabin I gave the girls there instructions. They needed to pick up the sticks and rocks while I started to weed eat. They did a pretty good job. I asked Janie if she knew how to use the weed eater. She thought about it and decided she did not know how to operate it. No problem. I told her she could use the mower and start on the yard in front of the cabin. She started to mow and I noticed she kept asked under her breath when were we going to leave. I just kept right on weed eating. We did get about 1/8th of the place mowed. I told Janie she had to finish a certain amount by the time I get back out there. I wonder how that's gonna fly? Probably will never get off the ground.
Karmin watered the two trees that we planted yesterday. They are going to be very pretty as they grow. We planted one red dogwood tree and one dwarf red maple tree. Yep, that's right, I dug the holes and the girls helped put them in the ground. They have been fertilized and looked pretty good today.
God is so good. Every time we have done work in the driveway or the yard a breeze has blown at just the right time. Just as I would start to think that I might give up for the day God would just send at soft reminder of His presence. Once in a while my hair would get in my face and I could not see what I was doing. I realized God did that so I could not see what creepy crawly thing was running away from where my foot was just at.

SPROUTS!!
While Melissa was home on spring break we shopped for seeds. We picked out some yummy tomato seeds. It is too early to plant them directly in the garden so we used a jiffy greenhouse. It was very easy and fun to use. We planted our seeds on March 16th and as of last night we have sprouts. I think I might start all my seeds this way. By the time the "last frost" gets here all the seeds should be baby plants and ready for the garden.

Melissa Just Thought Spring Break Was For FUN!
Melissa has been home this week on spring break. She did not go to the beach and party like a rock star. Instead, she went to the cabin and shoveled rocks like a star. She did a great job helping out this week. As you can see in the pictures some of the trenches in the drive way are pretty deep. We have filled in a couple.

If Janie fell in this one on her scooter she would be lost forever! |

Brian's First Repair
I am not sure if you would call it a repair. When we closed on the cabin we were told there were no keys for the locks. So we went right out and bought new ones. Brian did a great job putting them in. Don't they look great?
Oh yes, do you see that dead bolt? Well, it is a FAKE! It is just there to fill a hole :) |

Awesome Sunday!!
Sunday was great. The weather was beautiful. Church was awesome! We tilled in the lime and planted our potatoes and onions. Wait, let me correct myself. WE did till in the lime----but, I planted the potatoes and onions. I followed the instructions and measured the depth of the holes. I measured how far apart every thing needed to be. You know, following the instructions probably means nothing will grow. Probably should have just thrown it on the ground and covered it up. That would have taken way less time!
Janie was amused. I was kneeling on a sack so my knees would not get all dirty. So instead of standing up to move I just sort of hopped on my knees with the bag. Like--bunny knee hopping. She did get a laugh out of it.
Brian did get the brush sticking out in to the driveway trimmed back. It is nice to go down the drive with out worrying about the car getting scratched up. Of course I am probably the only one that worries about that J
I did make a trip down to the creek. It is so nice. Once we get the yard fixed up it is going to be beautiful. The creek has really been flowing with the rain. It is nice to be outside and hear the sound of the water rushing by. It was funny as I worked in the garden and Janie stood watching—the frogs started to croak and Janie said, “Hey mom what is that noise?” I told her, “Well, frogs of course.” Her reply, “Are you sure? Mom! Are you really sure they make a noise like that?” Yes, my dear sweet Janie they do!
